Jake Blanchard is the perfect balance of "the carrot and the stick." I reached out to Mr. Blanchard, a long time friend and colleague of mine, in April of 2020 to become my job coach. I've held many high-level positions in my career where it was necessary to be a "self-starter," but I never understood how difficult it is to start your own business until I decided to go out on my own and give it a shot 2 years ago. I'd invented a musical instrument accessory and started a musical performance business called CajonAlone (www.cajonalone.com) when I originally went out on my own, but struggled to find the motivation to take it seriously, properly manage and properly promote this product. When the Corona Virus left me laid off from a VP position with a company I'd invested with (due to my self acknowledged lack of self-motivation to work for myself), I decided it was time to start a new business in the hemp industry, which I'd been wanting to start for 10 years. After a couple weeks of contemplating and spinning my wheels on where to start, I decided to reach out to Jake and see if he'd be willing to help me out 1 hour per week to help hold me accountable, prioritize and get me going on the project that I truly feel is my life's passion. Jake agreed to assist me in this endeavor, and I was blown away with Jake's consistency, groundedness, organization and empathy as we met weekly to get this new business up and going. I struggled to really push myself the first couple weeks of our meetings, but Jake provided the perfect balance of challenging me on my time use, but still acknowledging the challenging and overwhelming aspects of starting this business (this particular hemp niche is something very few people are involved in within the United States). Jake helped keep me grounded, focused on the present, but still allowed for long term vision and mission development despite our focus on the now. Jake was key in helping me identify issues, prioritize tasks, take ownership of my time/assets, maintain my motivation/sanity when challenges arose, and helped me pivot when I hit roadblocks. We've been working together for more than 4 months now, and I've now officially started my company and began producing my product line. I've still got more to do, but Jake helped me so much in creating IdahOr Hemp Products (www.IdahOr.com) and now I'm within 2 weeks (as of 8/31/2020) of launching my website, going to market and showing measurable, sustainable income with minimal startup costs. Jake was the "heavy" when I wasn't performing and my cheerleader when I needed a lift. He helped me overcome every obstacle in my path, and made sure I stopped to celebrate my wins as they came (and the harder I worked and the more I worked with Jake, the more they came).
